Between

We live in between the darkness and the light
Dependent upon God’s grace and might.
Abiding between the hawk and dove,
Existing between the powers of evil and love.

We live in between the seconds and the years,
Between the smoke and the mirrors,
Navigating between the physical and spiritual,
Between the mundane and the miracle.

We live between our choices,
That proclaim more than our voices.
Some choices foolish, others are wise
Making our path, forming our lives.

We live between possibilities,
Of what is, and is not, true reality,
Jesus said, choose to believe in the father and me.
And I will take you to heaven for eternity.

Forgive

What if the world was only black and white?
Where everyone is all good, or evil.
Where we only walked in the dark or light.
Where one wrong choice was indefensible.

Such is a world without God’s forgiveness.
with no mercy, judged only on our merit,
weighed against all our sins without redress.
Knowing God and heaven, but kept from it.

With divine mercy, God forgives our sins.
What should we do to those who offend us?
Jesus said, we are forgiven our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.

If I don’t forgive, it only hurts me.
Bitterness and anger tear me apart.
The offenses of the past are all I see.
Pain, grudge, and resentment consume my heart.

All powerful negative emotions
which I choose to adopt as my burden
feeding them leads to greater possession
pushing away God, leaving me barren

Forgiving others is a gift to me.
Giving everything to God makes we whole
so the holy spirit can dwell in me
Bringing love and peace to heal my soul.

Sifted

st-ignatius

When I examen at the close of the each day,
did my thoughts and actions follow the way?
Those things I did wrong, and things I did right
things I could have done better for the light.

All fail to meet Jesus’ examples
Even people that were his disciples
Keeping in mind my many flaws human
What to do with my daily examen?

How do I react when I come up short?
Do I separate myself from God’s support?
Do I attempt to judge myself and say,
Worthless, hopeless, a failure every day?

Even Simon Peter wandered astray.
Tested, found wanting in less than a day.
Fear shaking his faith, yet he came back.
Stronger, able to help others who lack.

Is my character defined when all’s right?
Or by my actions after I fail the light?
God please grant me faith to repent and pray,
Letting the Holy Spirit rule my day.
