Mahitungod niining pag-ampo
An examination of conscience is a prayerful review of our thoughts, words, actions, and omissions in the light of God’s commandments and the Gospel. It can prepare us for the Sacrament of Reconciliation or form part of evening prayer. This original, brief guide is for personal reflection or a community led in silence; it is not an exhaustive examination or a substitute for sacramental confession. In a group, keep personal answers private. The traditional Act of Contrition follows the reflection.

Teksto sa pag-ampo
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
1. Ask for light
Let us place ourselves in the presence of our loving Father. We ask for the courage to see our lives honestly and for trust in his mercy.
Holy Spirit, help me recognize the good I have received and the love I have failed to give. Show me where I have sinned, without excuses or despair. Lead me back to Jesus with a sincere heart. Amen.
2. Give thanks
Recall a gift, a person, or an opportunity to do good. Where did you recognize God’s care?
Pause in silence and give thanks.
3. Review your life
For evening prayer, review this day. In preparation for confession, review the time since your last confession. Reflect quietly after each set of questions; no one needs to answer aloud.
Have I made room for prayer and worship, or allowed other priorities to take God’s place? Have I treated God’s name and sacred things with reverence? Have I knowingly neglected Sunday Mass when I could attend?
Have I listened to and cared for those entrusted to me? Have I neglected duties at home, at work, at school, or in my community? Have I used authority to serve, or to control and humiliate?
Have I hurt anyone through violence, cruelty, anger, or indifference? Have I encouraged hatred or treated another person as less worthy of respect? Have I cared responsibly for my own life and health?
Have I respected my commitments and the dignity of others in my relationships? Have I used another person for my own pleasure or advantage? Have I cultivated thoughts, words, or actions contrary to chastity and faithful love?
Have I lied, cheated, stolen, or damaged another person’s reputation? Have I withheld what I owed or acted unfairly for personal gain? Have I allowed envy or greed to direct my choices?
Have I ignored someone I could reasonably help? Have I refused to seek reconciliation where it was possible and safe? Have I neglected people in poverty, those who are lonely, or the needs of our shared world?
Pause for silent reflection. Bring your own particular actions and omissions honestly before God.
Trusting in God’s mercy, let us express our sorrow and our desire to begin again.
4. Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell; but most of all because they offend thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.
5. Choose a next step
Consider one concrete way to change: an apology, restitution, a neglected duty to fulfill, or a habit to address. If preparing for confession, bring your sins honestly to the priest and ask for guidance where needed.
Merciful Father, thank you for calling me back to you. Give me the grace to repair the harm I have caused and to follow through on my resolution. Help me receive your forgiveness and become more patient, truthful, and generous. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Let us gather in the presence of God, remembering those who pray with us and those who cannot be here. We bring our gratitude, our needs, and our willingness to care for one another.
God of love, unite our hearts in prayer and teach us to serve you together.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Community intentions
For the courage to acknowledge our sins without excuses, give us honest hearts and trust in your mercy.
Lord, hear our prayer, and help us become instruments of your mercy.
For the people affected by our failures, move us beyond regret into restitution, changed habits, and responsible care.
Lord, hear our prayer, and help us become instruments of your mercy.
Pause for silent prayer. Intentions may be offered aloud freely; no one is required to share.
For the intentions spoken and those held quietly in our hearts, let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, receive our prayer and sustain us in your love.
Let us entrust ourselves and those for whom we have prayed to the Father.
Merciful Father, receive our prayer through Jesus Christ. Where we can offer help, make us willing; where we must wait, give us patience. Keep us attentive to one another beyond this gathering. May the grace of this prayer take root in our homes, our work, and our choices, so that your love becomes visible through our lives. Amen.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
