About this prayer
Pray before a daily commute, a pilgrimage, or a journey by land, sea, or air. This original devotional prayer asks for protection, wise decisions, patience, and care for fellow travelers. It may be prayed alone or together before departure, followed by thanksgiving on arrival.
Prayer text
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Before the journey
Let us entrust our journey, our companions, and those awaiting us to the care of God.
Loving Father, be with us as we begin this journey. Watch over us along the way and guide us safely to our destination. Give us calm hearts, sound judgment, and patience when plans change.
Bless all who drive, pilot, navigate, maintain, and care for the vehicles and services on which travelers depend. Keep them attentive, rested, and considerate. Help us act responsibly, respect safety instructions, and protect the lives of others.
Be close to those traveling alone, those who are anxious, and those journeying because of illness, hardship, or separation from family. Lead them to trustworthy help and a welcome at their destination.
Through the prayers of Mary, our Mother, and Saint Raphael the Archangel, accompany us in every stage of our journey. May we recognize your goodness in the people we meet and carry your peace wherever we go. Keep those we leave behind in your loving care. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Pause briefly and remember the people for whom you wish to pray on this journey.
May the Lord guide our steps and help us travel in peace.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Thanksgiving upon arrival
Heavenly Father, thank you for accompanying us and bringing us to this place. Bless everyone who helped us along the way. Grant rest to the weary, comfort to those still traveling, and peace to the people who welcome us. May our time here be filled with gratitude, kindness, and love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Extended community prayer
The original prayer above is unchanged. This separate community version includes additional intentions and responses. One person leads; everyone joins in the shared parts.
Let us gather in the presence of God, remembering those who pray with us and those who cannot be here. We bring our gratitude, our needs, and our willingness to care for one another.
God of love, unite our hearts in prayer and teach us to serve you together.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Community intentions
For travellers delayed, stranded, or far from home, provide safe shelter, reliable assistance, and patient companions.
Lord, hear our prayer, and help us become instruments of your mercy.
For drivers, crews, and all responsible for transport, give alertness and wisdom; help every traveller show consideration for others.
Lord, hear our prayer, and help us become instruments of your mercy.
Pause for silent prayer. Intentions may be offered aloud freely; no one is required to share.
For the intentions spoken and those held quietly in our hearts, let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, receive our prayer and sustain us in your love.
Let us entrust ourselves and those for whom we have prayed to the Father.
Merciful Father, receive our prayer through Jesus Christ. Where we can offer help, make us willing; where we must wait, give us patience. Keep us attentive to one another beyond this gathering. May the grace of this prayer take root in our homes, our work, and our choices, so that your love becomes visible through our lives. Amen.
