About this novena

This is an original nine-day devotional adaptation written for Prayers & Reflections, not an official liturgical text or a reproduction of a particular shrine’s novena. Each day offers a distinct intention and a practical response of faith. Novenas invite persevering prayer and do not guarantee a particular result.

The guided companion follows the St. Vincent novena’s six sections. The nine-day Scripture cycle follows the St. Vincent companion. Scripture, reflection, intentions and thanksgiving are companion additions; the devotional prayer text is preserved. Scripture readings use the public-domain Douay-Rheims Bible. Added community prayers and reflections are original devotional texts.

How to pray this novena

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Pray the opening prayer, the prayer for the appropriate day, and the closing prayer on each of nine days. Name your intention in silence. These original devotional prayers may be prayed individually or together.

Opening prayer

Amin

God of mercy, gather us in your presence as we begin this novena. We bring you our intention, our gratitude, and the needs of those who cannot find words to pray. Saint Benedict, pray for us. Open our hearts to a balanced life of prayer, work, and hospitality. Help us to receive your answer with trust and to put our faith into action. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Day 1 · Listen
Amin

Saint Benedict, pray for us. Ask the Lord to quiet the impatience that keeps us from hearing his word. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us attend to one person today without distraction or interruption. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 2 · Prayer
Amin

Saint Benedict, pray for us. Pray that we may make prayer a faithful part of ordinary life rather than a last resort. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to keep a simple time of prayer with attention. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 3 · Work
Amin

Saint Benedict, pray for us. Intercede for all who labour in difficult, repetitive, or hidden responsibilities. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us work honestly and remember the people served by our daily tasks. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 4 · Humility
Amin

Saint Benedict, pray for us. Ask Christ to free us from the need to prove ourselves better than others. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to receive correction thoughtfully and acknowledge another person's contribution. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 5 · Hospitality
Amin

Saint Benedict, pray for us. Pray for strangers, visitors, and people who hesitate to enter our communities. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Move us to offer welcome without suspicion and practical help without condescension. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 6 · Peace
Amin

Saint Benedict, pray for us. Remember homes and workplaces where harsh words have become the accepted way of communicating. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us speak calmly and refuse to add needless tension to a conflict. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 7 · Stewardship
Amin

Saint Benedict, pray for us. Ask for respect toward the goods, places, and resources entrusted to our care. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to reduce waste and use what we possess for shared benefit. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 8 · Stability
Amin

Saint Benedict, pray for us. Pray for those tempted to abandon a good commitment because it has become ordinary. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us persevere wisely while remaining open to needed change and guidance. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 9 · Balanced faithfulness
Amin

Saint Benedict, pray for us. Bring our intention before God and ask for harmony between prayer, work, service, and rest. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to shape a sustainable daily rhythm that leaves room for love. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Closing prayer

Amin

Heavenly Father, receive the prayers we have offered today. Let a balanced life of prayer, work, and hospitality take root in our daily choices. Give help to those in distress, wisdom to those who care for them, and hope to those who feel forgotten. We entrust our intention to your loving providence without demanding a particular outcome. Keep us faithful to Jesus and generous toward our neighbour. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Amin

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Amin

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Prayers and Reflections strives to provide faithful and accurate Catholic prayers and devotional materials in different Philippine languages.

Some prayer texts are obtained from existing Catholic websites and devotional sources. While these sources are selected with care, not all translations have documented ecclesiastical approval or have undergone independent theological and linguistic verification.

Some translations may therefore contain unintentional differences, variations in wording, or inaccuracies.

Our translation verification and improvement process is ongoing. We welcome corrections and suggestions from clergy, Catholic scholars, and knowledgeable native speakers.

The inclusion of a prayer does not imply official approval by the Catholic Church unless such approval is expressly identified and verified.
