About this novena

This is an original nine-day devotional adaptation written for Prayers & Reflections, not an official liturgical text or a reproduction of a particular shrine’s novena. Each day offers a distinct intention and a practical response of faith. Novenas invite persevering prayer and do not guarantee a particular result.

The guided companion follows the St. Vincent novena’s six sections. The nine-day Scripture cycle follows the St. Vincent companion. Scripture, reflection, intentions and thanksgiving are companion additions; the devotional prayer text is preserved. Scripture readings use the public-domain Douay-Rheims Bible. Added community prayers and reflections are original devotional texts.

How to pray this novena

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Pray the opening prayer, the prayer for the appropriate day, and the closing prayer on each of nine days. Name your intention in silence. These original devotional prayers may be prayed individually or together.

Opening prayer

Amin

God of mercy, gather us in your presence as we begin this novena. We bring you our intention, our gratitude, and the needs of those who cannot find words to pray. Holy Spirit, come and renew our hearts. Open our hearts to openness to the gifts and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Help us to receive your answer with trust and to put our faith into action. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Day 1 · Waiting in prayer
Amin

Holy Spirit, come and renew our hearts. Gather us in patient prayer with Mary and the disciples who awaited God's promise. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us listen together rather than rushing to impose our own plans. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 2 · Wisdom
Amin

Holy Spirit, come and renew our hearts. Give us wisdom to value what leads to love, justice, and friendship with God. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to examine today's choices in the light of what truly lasts. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 3 · Understanding
Amin

Holy Spirit, come and renew our hearts. Open our understanding when Scripture, suffering, or another person's experience challenges our assumptions. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Make us humble learners who ask questions and listen with attention. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 4 · Counsel
Amin

Holy Spirit, come and renew our hearts. Guide those facing decisions about family, work, health, and responsibilities toward others. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us seek sound advice and refuse choices built on deceit or selfishness. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 5 · Fortitude
Amin

Holy Spirit, come and renew our hearts. Strengthen people who must remain faithful under pressure, discouragement, or unfair treatment. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Give us courage to do the next right thing without harshness or pride. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 6 · Knowledge
Amin

Holy Spirit, come and renew our hearts. Teach us to recognize God's goodness in creation and our responsibility for its care. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Move us to use our resources wisely and reduce needless waste. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 7 · Piety
Amin

Holy Spirit, come and renew our hearts. Deepen our love for the Father and our affection for the people he has made. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Let prayer make us more attentive and generous in our family relationships. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 8 · Wonder before God
Amin

Holy Spirit, come and renew our hearts. Free us from treating holy things casually and from using religion to control others. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us reverence expressed through humility, gratitude, and respect for conscience. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 9 · Mission
Amin

Holy Spirit, come and renew our hearts. Send us beyond comfortable routines to share the Gospel in words and deeds. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Make our community a place where strangers are welcomed and the vulnerable protected. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Closing prayer

Amin

Heavenly Father, receive the prayers we have offered today. Let openness to the gifts and guidance of the Holy Spirit take root in our daily choices. Give help to those in distress, wisdom to those who care for them, and hope to those who feel forgotten. We entrust our intention to your loving providence without demanding a particular outcome. Keep us faithful to Jesus and generous toward our neighbour. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Amin

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Amin

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Some translations may therefore contain unintentional differences, variations in wording, or inaccuracies.

Our translation verification and improvement process is ongoing. We welcome corrections and suggestions from clergy, Catholic scholars, and knowledgeable native speakers.
