About this novena

This is an original nine-day devotional adaptation written for Prayers & Reflections, not an official liturgical text or a reproduction of a particular shrine’s novena. Each day offers a distinct intention and a practical response of faith. Novenas invite persevering prayer and do not guarantee a particular result.

The guided companion follows the St. Vincent novena’s six sections. The nine-day Scripture cycle follows the St. Vincent companion. Scripture, reflection, intentions and thanksgiving are companion additions; the devotional prayer text is preserved. Scripture readings use the public-domain Douay-Rheims Bible. Added community prayers and reflections are original devotional texts.

How to pray this novena

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Pray the opening prayer, the prayer for the appropriate day, and the closing prayer on each of nine days. Name your intention in silence. These original devotional prayers may be prayed individually or together.

Opening prayer

Amin

God of mercy, gather us in your presence as we begin this novena. We bring you our intention, our gratitude, and the needs of those who cannot find words to pray. Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us. Open our hearts to grateful openness to the grace of Christ. Help us to receive your answer with trust and to put our faith into action. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Day 1 · Grace
Amin

Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us. Help us recognize salvation as God's gift rather than a prize for appearing flawless. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to receive mercy and rely on Christ in our weakness. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 2 · A willing heart
Amin

Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us. Pray that we may answer God's invitations freely and without endless postponement. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us say yes to one clear duty of love today. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 3 · Purity of intention
Amin

Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us. Ask Jesus to cleanse the hidden motives that turn service into self-promotion. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to act honestly even when nobody will notice or praise us. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 4 · Humility
Amin

Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us. Free us from comparing our spiritual lives with others in order to feel superior. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us honour the dignity and goodness of those whose journey differs from ours. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 5 · Repentance
Amin

Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us. Bring our failures before your Son and encourage us to return without despair. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Lead us to seek forgiveness and take concrete responsibility for harm done. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 6 · Faith
Amin

Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us. Strengthen those who struggle to trust God during confusion, bereavement, or disappointment. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to remain attentive to the Gospel and the support of our community. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 7 · Charity
Amin

Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us. Pray that devotion to you may make us quicker to notice a neighbour's need. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us share our time or resources with someone who is easily overlooked. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 8 · Hope
Amin

Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us. Ask your Son to renew those who feel trapped by the mistakes of their past. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us believe in the possibility of conversion and encourage another person's beginning. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 9 · Thanksgiving
Amin

Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us. Join our praise for the grace of Christ at work in your life and ours. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to keep receiving his gifts and answering them with generous love. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Closing prayer

Amin

Heavenly Father, receive the prayers we have offered today. Let grateful openness to the grace of Christ take root in our daily choices. Give help to those in distress, wisdom to those who care for them, and hope to those who feel forgotten. We entrust our intention to your loving providence without demanding a particular outcome. Keep us faithful to Jesus and generous toward our neighbour. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Amin

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Amin

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Some prayer texts are obtained from existing Catholic websites and devotional sources. While these sources are selected with care, not all translations have documented ecclesiastical approval or have undergone independent theological and linguistic verification.

Some translations may therefore contain unintentional differences, variations in wording, or inaccuracies.

Our translation verification and improvement process is ongoing. We welcome corrections and suggestions from clergy, Catholic scholars, and knowledgeable native speakers.

The inclusion of a prayer does not imply official approval by the Catholic Church unless such approval is expressly identified and verified.
