About this novena

This is an original nine-day devotional adaptation written for Prayers & Reflections, not an official liturgical text or a reproduction of a particular shrine’s novena. Each day offers a distinct intention and a practical response of faith. Novenas invite persevering prayer and do not guarantee a particular result.

The guided companion follows the St. Vincent novena’s six sections. The nine-day Scripture cycle follows the St. Vincent companion. Scripture, reflection, intentions and thanksgiving are companion additions; the devotional prayer text is preserved. Scripture readings use the public-domain Douay-Rheims Bible. Added community prayers and reflections are original devotional texts.

How to pray this novena

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Pray the opening prayer, the prayer for the appropriate day, and the closing prayer on each of nine days. Name your intention in silence. These original devotional prayers may be prayed individually or together.

Opening prayer

Amin

God of mercy, gather us in your presence as we begin this novena. We bring you our intention, our gratitude, and the needs of those who cannot find words to pray. Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Open our hearts to prayerful attention and faithful discipleship. Help us to receive your answer with trust and to put our faith into action. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Day 1 · Silence
Amin

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Lead us away from needless noise so we can attend to the presence of God. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us keep a brief period of silence without needing to fill it. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 2 · Listening
Amin

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Ask your Son to open our hearts to his word and to the people around us. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to listen fully before we prepare our own response. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 3 · Discipleship
Amin

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Pray that outward signs of devotion may be matched by an inward desire for holiness. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us make one choice that reflects the Gospel in daily life. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 4 · Detachment
Amin

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Free us from possessions and ambitions that consume the attention we owe to love. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to let go of something unnecessary and share generously. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 5 · Community
Amin

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Remember those who seek God in religious communities, families, workplaces, and solitary lives. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us honour different vocations and support someone else's faithful commitment. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 6 · Trust
Amin

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Stand beside those passing through spiritual dryness or a season without clear direction. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to remain faithful to prayer while seeking wise guidance. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 7 · Service
Amin

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Ask Jesus to prevent our prayer from becoming an escape from our neighbour's needs. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us turn quiet attention into a concrete act of charity. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 8 · Perseverance
Amin

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Pray for those whose responsibilities leave them little time or energy for themselves. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us find a sustainable rhythm of prayer, rest, and generous work. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 9 · Belonging to Christ
Amin

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Receive our intention and draw us more deeply into friendship with your Son. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to carry a spirit of prayer into every ordinary encounter. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Closing prayer

Amin

Heavenly Father, receive the prayers we have offered today. Let prayerful attention and faithful discipleship take root in our daily choices. Give help to those in distress, wisdom to those who care for them, and hope to those who feel forgotten. We entrust our intention to your loving providence without demanding a particular outcome. Keep us faithful to Jesus and generous toward our neighbour. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Amin

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Amin

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Some prayer texts are obtained from existing Catholic websites and devotional sources. While these sources are selected with care, not all translations have documented ecclesiastical approval or have undergone independent theological and linguistic verification.

Some translations may therefore contain unintentional differences, variations in wording, or inaccuracies.

Our translation verification and improvement process is ongoing. We welcome corrections and suggestions from clergy, Catholic scholars, and knowledgeable native speakers.

The inclusion of a prayer does not imply official approval by the Catholic Church unless such approval is expressly identified and verified.
