About this novena

This is an original nine-day devotional adaptation written for Prayers & Reflections, not an official liturgical text or a reproduction of a particular shrine’s novena. Each day offers a distinct intention and a practical response of faith. Novenas invite persevering prayer and do not guarantee a particular result.

The guided companion follows the St. Vincent novena’s six sections. The nine-day Scripture cycle follows the St. Vincent companion. Scripture, reflection, intentions and thanksgiving are companion additions; the devotional prayer text is preserved. Scripture readings use the public-domain Douay-Rheims Bible. Added community prayers and reflections are original devotional texts.

How to pray this novena

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Pray the opening prayer, the prayer for the appropriate day, and the closing prayer on each of nine days. Name your intention in silence. These original devotional prayers may be prayed individually or together.

Opening prayer

Amin

God of mercy, gather us in your presence as we begin this novena. We bring you our intention, our gratitude, and the needs of those who cannot find words to pray. Saint Peregrine, pray for those who are sick. Open our hearts to healing, courage, and compassionate care. Help us to receive your answer with trust and to put our faith into action. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Day 1 · Diagnosis
Amin

Saint Peregrine, pray for those who are sick. Bring before Christ those who have received frightening news about their health. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us accompany them gently and respect the pace at which they share their concerns. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 2 · Treatment
Amin

Saint Peregrine, pray for those who are sick. Pray for patients facing surgery, medication, radiation, or other demanding courses of care. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Give them competent helpers and strength to ask questions about their treatment. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 3 · Pain
Amin

Saint Peregrine, pray for those who are sick. Intercede for those whose physical suffering interrupts sleep, work, relationships, and prayer. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help us support relief of suffering and recognize the dignity of each person. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 4 · Caregivers
Amin

Saint Peregrine, pray for those who are sick. Remember relatives and professionals whose patient care can become exhausting and lonely. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Move us to offer rest, meals, transport, or practical help without waiting to be asked. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 5 · Fear
Amin

Saint Peregrine, pray for those who are sick. Ask Jesus to comfort those who worry about what their illness may mean for loved ones. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Help them speak honestly with trusted people and receive support without shame. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 6 · Hope
Amin

Saint Peregrine, pray for those who are sick. Pray for those discouraged by setbacks, slow recovery, or uncertain medical results. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to encourage hope without guaranteeing a cure or minimizing difficult realities. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 7 · Solidarity
Amin

Saint Peregrine, pray for those who are sick. Remember people unable to afford treatment or reach the care they need. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Inspire our communities to share resources and advocate for compassionate access to care. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 8 · Peace
Amin

Saint Peregrine, pray for those who are sick. Bring before God those facing limits of treatment and difficult end-of-life decisions. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Surround them with wise care, loving presence, and respect for their dignity. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Day 9 · Thanksgiving
Amin

Saint Peregrine, pray for those who are sick. Join us in gratitude for every caregiver, kindness, and moment of strength received. We place before God the intention we carry through these nine days, remembering also those whose burdens are hidden from us. Teach us to entrust our intention to Christ while continuing to love faithfully. Give us patience when answers come slowly and courage to follow Christ in the ordinary duties of today. May our prayer bear fruit in faithful love. Amen.

Closing prayer

Amin

Heavenly Father, receive the prayers we have offered today. Let healing, courage, and compassionate care take root in our daily choices. Give help to those in distress, wisdom to those who care for them, and hope to those who feel forgotten. We entrust our intention to your loving providence without demanding a particular outcome. Keep us faithful to Jesus and generous toward our neighbour. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Amin

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Amin

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Some prayer texts are obtained from existing Catholic websites and devotional sources. While these sources are selected with care, not all translations have documented ecclesiastical approval or have undergone independent theological and linguistic verification.

Some translations may therefore contain unintentional differences, variations in wording, or inaccuracies.

Our translation verification and improvement process is ongoing. We welcome corrections and suggestions from clergy, Catholic scholars, and knowledgeable native speakers.

The inclusion of a prayer does not imply official approval by the Catholic Church unless such approval is expressly identified and verified.
