Visita Iglesia Prayer Guide

A reverent guide to church visits with traditional prayers and Gospel readings.

Visita Iglesia Prayer Guide — devotional artwork

Maipapan iti daytoy a kararag

Visita Iglesia is a Philippine devotional custom of visiting churches, especially during Holy Week. This site-authored guide uses traditional prayers already preserved on this website and complete public-domain Douay-Rheims Gospel verses. The guidance and reflection prompts are separate from the published prayers. It is not an official liturgical order or an obligation to visit a set number of churches. Follow the arrangements of each church and respect liturgical services in progress.

Prepare for the visit

Mangidaulo iti kararag

Let us visit these churches reverently, remembering Jesus in his Passion. Keep conversations quiet, respect each church’s directions, and allow others room to pray.

On Holy Thursday, follow local parish directions for prayer at the altar of repose. Do not treat the altar of repose as a tomb. Seven churches are a devotional custom, not an obligation; a person may pray in fewer churches or at home if unable to travel.

At each church

Our translation verification and improvement process is ongoing. We welcome corrections and suggestions from clergy, Catholic scholars, and knowledgeable native speakers.
